If you are fitting a new neck to an old pot or building a new banjo, making a tapered dowel stick is time consuming and tricky. These dowel sticks are turned, drilled for an end bolt, and tapered on all four sides. All this is done on an exact center line.
Length not counting dowel:
10 1/2" for 11" pots
11 1/2" for 12" pots
Length of dowel: 1 1/2"
Diameter of dowel: .78" or 25/32. Dowel is slightly oversized of 3/4" to allow for fitting into a 3/4" hole.
Width at the thick end: 13/16" sq. Fits a StewMac dowel stick bracket.
Width at the narrow end: 9/16" sq. Fits a StewMac ferrule.
End hole diameter is 5/32".
